Porta del Cielo roof walk for children aged 7 to 11
The same walk above the vaults as the adult ticket, at the cathedral's fare for ages 7 to 11.
Children aged 7 to 11 have their own roof-walk fare. It covers the same walk and the same three days in the complex as the adult ticket. Children up to 6 go free, added to your booking at no charge. The cathedral asks you to hold children by the hand for the whole walk.
What it is
Porta del Cielo is a 30-minute walk through the roof spaces of Siena Cathedral, led by cathedral staff. You cross above the starry vaults and look down the striped nave from the high galleries. The same ticket opens the whole cathedral complex for three consecutive days.
On the day
Be at the Cathedral's main entrance, in the priority queue, at least 20 minutes before your time. Staff take the group up a winding staircase. After the walk, carry on inside to the nave and the Piccolomini Library, then the Crypt, Baptistery and Museo dell'Opera whenever suits you within the three days.
Before you book
No backpacks or bulky bags are admitted, and there is no left luggage. Wear closed, non-slip shoes. The cathedral does not recommend the walk for people with vertigo or heart conditions, and the staircase makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. If that is you, the cathedral complex pass is the better choice.
