Porta del Cielo roof walk with the cathedral complex
Thirty minutes above the starry vaults with cathedral staff, then the whole complex over three days.
The adult roof ticket is for visitors aged 12 and over. It gives you a timed place on the Porta del Cielo walk, capped at 18 people, and three consecutive days in the Cathedral, Piccolomini Library, Museo dell'Opera with its façade panorama, Crypt and Baptistery.
What it is
Porta del Cielo is a 30-minute walk through the roof spaces of Siena Cathedral, led by cathedral staff. You cross above the starry vaults and look down the striped nave from the high galleries. The same ticket opens the whole cathedral complex for three consecutive days.
On the day
Be at the Cathedral's main entrance, in the priority queue, at least 20 minutes before your time. Staff take the group up a winding staircase. After the walk, carry on inside to the nave and the Piccolomini Library, then the Crypt, Baptistery and Museo dell'Opera whenever suits you within the three days.
Before you book
No backpacks or bulky bags are admitted, and there is no left luggage. Wear closed, non-slip shoes. The cathedral does not recommend the walk for people with vertigo or heart conditions, and the staircase makes it unsuitable for wheelchairs. If that is you, the cathedral complex pass is the better choice.
